South Quay Shed - Whitstable

Next Phase and Reimagine Place have been appointed by Canterbury City Council to deliver a review of South Quay Shed, a mixed-use venue at Whitstable Harbour that launched in 2022. Combining street food vendors, boutique retailers, a coffee shop, and a versatile community space, South Quay Shed has quickly become a vibrant hub for locals and visitors alike.

Our role involved assessing the venue’s performance over its first two years of operation, comparing its outcomes against the original business case to identify successes and opportunities for growth. Reimagine Place led an extensive public consultation to gather community feedback on the space, while Next Phase focuses on engaging with tenants and conducting a thorough financial and commercial review.

By analysing the operational and financial aspects of South Quay Shed alongside insights from stakeholders and the community, we are developing tailored recommendations to inform its future direction and prepare a financial business plan. Our goal is to ensure the venue continues to thrive as a dynamic destination, balancing commercial viability with its role as a key community asset.

This review will provide a roadmap for South Quay Shed’s ongoing success, helping it to adapt to evolving community needs while maintaining its unique appeal and economic impact within Whitstable Harbour.
